Solar Installation in Guatemala
Why solar for empowerment?
In remote parts of western Guatemala, many communities lack reliable and affordable electricity. This means the school has no power to light classes on dark days or to supply power for computers.
- Monthly electricity bills are beyond reach for many families, leaving the poorest communities in the dark.
- Training people in solar installation empowers them to invest in generating their own clean energy and save money.
- Electrifying community buildings increases their capacity to serve their communities in education, income generation and community organizing. Join our volunteer program to help Guatemalan communities.
Volunteer with the Community
ATC’s past solar volunteering projects have combined solar training with intercultural collaboration. International volunteers have learned about solar power and worked alongside local community members to install solar power on community buildings. These projects have brought people together through practical work and shared learning.
Past Volunteer Experiences
LEARN
Past volunteers have learned about electrical circuits and solar power in hands-on workshops, then worked alongside field technicians and community members to install solar power systems.
EAT LOCAL
Past experiences have included sharing local meals and connecting with community members beyond the project work.
EXPERIENCE
Past volunteer experiences have offered opportunities to learn about local traditions in the Guatemalan highlands, including textile weaving and tortilla making.
EXPLORE
Past trips have included visits to Lake Atitlán and opportunities to explore Antigua Guatemala.
Learn about the experience from the volunteers themselves!
